The Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation (EWVCF) is celebrating another remarkable year of helping local students pursue their educational dreams, awarding 170 scholarships to 121 students totaling $321,860 during its 2026 scholarship cycle.
These scholarships, made possible through the generosity of local donors and families who believe in investing in future generations, support students across a wide range of academic interests and career paths.
Students from across 5 counties, Berkeley, Hampshire, Hardy, Jefferson, and Morgan, were among the 233 applications received from highly qualified scholarship seekers. Through a thoughtful, impartial, and strategic selection process, scholarships were awarded to students demonstrating academic achievement, leadership potential, and financial need.
“For many students and families, scholarship awards are more than financial assistance—they’re moments of encouragement and affirmation,” said Karin Hammann Dunn, EWVCF Scholarship Program Manager. “Each recipient has demonstrated dedication, leadership, and a commitment to making a difference. We are honored to support them during their educational journey.”
The Foundation administers 170 unique scholarship opportunities, each created by a donor with a story, a passion, and a desire to make a lasting impact. Some scholarships support students pursuing specific fields of study such as science, forestry, geology, nursing, accounting, or divinity. Others recognize qualities like volunteerism, community involvement, financial need, academic achievement, or leadership. Some are designated for students from particular schools or geographic areas. Together, these scholarships reflect the values and aspirations of the individuals and families who established them, creating opportunities for students to pursue their educational goals while carrying forward a donor’s legacy.
Since launching its scholarship program in 1995, EWVCF has awarded more than $1 million in scholarships to over 1,000 students throughout the Eastern Panhandle and surrounding region.
