MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — Eastern West Virginia Community & Technical College (Eastern WVCTC) has been selected as a program sponsor by the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) Center for Policy and Practice to participate in the first cohort of the Scaling Apprenticeship at Community Colleges Project.

As a program sponsor, Eastern WVCTC will receive tools to expand programs in industries such as heavy equipment operation, advanced manufacturing, cybersecurity, education, healthcare, diesel technology, welding, sterile manufacturing, information technology and agriculture.

“We’re incredibly honored and excited to be selected for this program. This grant isn’t just about starting a few new apprenticeship tracks; it’s a vital opportunity for us to learn from national experts and build a lasting, scalable system for apprenticeship programs here at Eastern,” said Lauren Arbaugh, Director of Workforce & Continuing Education. “This is a game-changer for the Potomac Highlands, as it will allow us a vital opportunity to collaborate with industry partners, develop skilled talent, and strengthen our community’s economic future through innovative, hands-on training pathways.”

Over the next year, the college will take part in monthly learning modules with national experts and peer discussions on navigating the apprenticeship system, working with employers, developing related technical instruction and creating apprenticeship standards.

By the end of the four-year project period, participating colleges will not only understand the basics of apprenticeships but also have sustainable systems to expand into more occupations. Each college will be required to develop standards for two nontraditional occupations and enroll its first apprentices.
