Hobart McKinley Bergdall Jr

Hobart McKinley Bergdall Jr, known to most as “Boss”, age 88 of Purgitsville, WV, passed away Wednesday evening, June 3, 2026, at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, VA. Born May 2, 1938, in Fisher, WV, he was the son of the late Hobart McKinley Bergdall, Sr and Della Frances Crites Bergdall. He was preceded in death by two sisters, June Mason and Norma Yokum.

Hobart leaves behind a legacy of love, adventure, and quiet devotion. He was, above all else, a dedicated husband and family man. His greatest pride was never found in accolades or possessions, but in the people gathered around his table, the laughter shared under his roof, and the steady, unwavering love he gave to those closest to him.

But he was also a man who knew how to live. He found joy on the open road atop a motorcycle, spent countless mornings on the golf course, and when nature called, he answered with a camper, a campfire, and the wide-open sky — because he understood that the best moments often happen away from the noise of everyday life. Hobart was a member of the Moorefield Lodge #29 AF & AM, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter #102. He was a past Worshipful Master of Moorefield Lodge #29 AF & AM, and past Grand Deputy Lecture of the Grand Lodge of WV.

He lived simply, loved deeply, and embraced the world with a spirit that never dulled with age. Whether he was teeing off at dawn, cruising down a back road, or sitting quietly beside the people he loved most, he was fully present — fully alive.

He leaves behind a family who will carry his memory not with sorrow, but with gratitude. Gratitude for a life shared generously, lived fully, and loved well.

Surviving is his wife of 66 years, Loretta Mae (Constable) Bergdall; a son, Curtis (Angel) Bergdall and a daughter, Anita Jo (Bobby) Green of Moorefield, WV; two sisters, Shirley (Burnell) Harris of Waverly, VA and Wanda (Doug) Veach of Petersburg, WV; grandchildren, Heather (Derek) Bergdall of Moorefield, WV, Christopher (Jamie) Green of Charleston, WV, Nathan (Alex) Vetter of Old Fields, WV, Melanie Brady of Purgitsville, Becky Green of Keyser, WV and Kennedie Hinger of Slanesville, WV; great-grandchildren, Kerigan Bergdall and Micah Mallow, Hailey Green, Weston Brothwell, Michael Harrison and Cohen Brady.

Funeral Services will be conducted 3:00 PM Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington Street, with Pastors Rick Bergdoll and Dan Stearns, officiants. Interment will follow in Asbury Cemetery, Bean Settlement, WV, where masonic Graveside Rites will be accorded by the Moorefield Lodge #29 AF & AM. The family will receive friends from 1:00PM until the time of services on Sunday.
