Big Third Inning Leads Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings Past East Hardy Varsity Lady Cougars

Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings scored five runs in the third inning, which helped them defeat East Hardy Varsity Lady Cougars 8-0 on Thursday at Michael Brothers Memorial Field.

Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings opened the scoring in the first after a passed ball scored one run.

Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the third inning. A passed ball scored one run, Ella Chew singled, scoring one run, Gracie Carpenter doubled, scoring two runs, and a passed ball scored one run.

Kinsley Crites earned the win for Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings. The starting pitcher allowed four hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out seven and walking none. Madison Strosnider started the game for East Hardy Varsity Lady Cougars. The righty gave up five hits and eight runs (two earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out nine and walking five.

Bella Bauserman, Paylynn Rexrode, Madison Strosnider, and Aubrey Roof each collected one hit for East Hardy Varsity Lady Cougars.

Cheynenne Sites went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings in hits. Karlee DiBenedetto and Ella Chew each drove in one run for Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings. Gracie Carpenter led Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting five walks for the game. Miley Tingler and Shyane Tawney each stole multiple bases for Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings. Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings ran wild on the base paths, accumulating seven stolen bases for the game. Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings turned one double play in the game. Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Ella Chew made the most plays with eight.

East Hardy Varsity Lady Cougars play at home on Saturday against Elkins Varsity Tigers in their next game.
