East Hardy Varsity Cougars Survive Hampshire Trojans

East Hardy Varsity Cougars got out to a 7-run lead in the fourth inning and held on for an 8-7 victory over Hampshire Trojans on Friday. Hampshire Trojans closed the gap by scoring on a fly out, a home run, a fielder’s choice, a single, and a fly out.

East Hardy Varsity Cougars got on the board in the top of the first inning after C Witt induced Dayton Dove to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored, and Gage Dove singled, scoring two runs.

East Hardy Varsity Cougars added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Gage Dove doubled to left field, and Owen Miller singled, each scoring one run.

M Slade homered to right field, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth for the Hampshire Trojans.

Shayne Sisler started on the bump for East Hardy Varsity Cougars. The right-handed pitcher surrendered five hits and five runs over five innings, striking out five and walking four. C Witt started on the mound for Hampshire Trojans. The starter allowed four hits and five runs (two earned) over two and two thirds innings, striking out three and walking two. Patrick Mills pitched one inning of shutout ball for East Hardy Varsity Cougars in relief. The pitcher surrendered zero hits, striking out none and walking one.

Gage Dove went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. Evan Hamilton stole two bases.

M Slade led Hampshire Trojans with two runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The outfielder went 1-for-2 on the day. Leadoff hitter C Witt led Hampshire Trojans with three hits in three at bats. C Witt stole two bases. Hampshire Trojans had a strong eye at the plate, amassing six walks for the game. Hampshire Trojans stole four bases in the game.

Next up for East Hardy Varsity Cougars is a game against Allegany Campers on Monday.
