Moorefield tames Tigers once with Baldwin’s heroics during doubleheader

Walk-Off Seals The Deal In Moorefield Varsity YellowJackets Victory Over Elkins Varsity Tiger

Moorefield Varsity YellowJackets took Saturday’s game in dramatic fashion, with a 4-3 walk-off victory over Elkins Varsity Tiger. The game was tied at three in the bottom of the eighth when Trevor Baldwin singled, scoring one run.

A double by Trevor Baldwin on the seventh pitch of the at-bat put Moorefield Varsity YellowJackets on the board in the bottom of the first.

Owen Stanley walked, which helped Elkins Varsity Tiger tie the game at one in the top of the second.

Elkins Varsity Tiger took the lead in the top of the third. An error scored one run, to give Elkins Varsity Tiger the lead, 2-1.

Caleb Flinn singled to center field following a 6-pitch at-bat, which helped Moorefield Varsity YellowJackets tie the game at three in the bottom of the seventh.

“This is a really great group of young gentlemen. I appreciate what they do on and off the field. They are great teammates, they are unselfish and support each other and that’s a great team culture. That was a great comeback in the first game. They didn’t lose confidence in themselves and made good use of every at-bat and every out. We can learn from each game and just have to continue to work hard and play together,” Moorefield Baseball coach Wade Armentrout stated.

Kail Greenwalt earned the win for Moorefield Varsity YellowJackets. The right-handed pitcher gave up one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out two and walking none. Owen Stanley took the loss for Elkins Varsity Tiger. The right-handed pitcher went one-third of an inning, giving up one run (zero earned) on two hits, striking out one and walking none. Trevor Baldwin opened the game for Moorefield Varsity YellowJackets. The hurler allowed four hits and three runs (zero earned) over six innings, striking out eight and walking two. Braden Cooper opened the game for Elkins Varsity Tiger. The starter allowed five hits and three runs (two earned) over seven innings, striking out three and walking one.

Trevor Baldwin provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Moorefield Varsity YellowJackets with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Zakk Keplinger stole two bases. Moorefield Varsity YellowJackets stole four bases in the game. Moorefield Varsity YellowJackets turned one double play in the game.

Blayne Thompson and Dyer Barger each collected two hits for Elkins Varsity Tiger. Elkins Varsity Tiger ran wild on the base paths, accumulating four stolen bases for the game. Elkins Varsity Tiger were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Caden Kreps had the most chances in the field with three.

Moorefield Varsity YellowJackets play at home on Saturday against Elkins Varsity Tiger in their next game.
