Festivals Are So Nice That Wardensville Will Try It Twice

Wardensville will redo its Fall Fest in spring. The one day event
will feature a wide range of craft, culinary, and other vendors

By Stephen Smoot

One defining feature of Wardensville is surely this: the people in that town love a good festival and will find any conceivable reason to throw more parties.

Coming up in May will be be Wardensville Spring Fest, a brand new version of the 17 year-old favorite, Wardensville Fall Fest.

As Susan Markofski, one of the organizers of Fall Fest shared, Spring Fest came about by popular demand from both attendees and vendors. She shared that community response was both immediate and excited. “Some of the vendors from the area approached us about doing a spring one.”

At least for year one, plans are to start with a single “compressed” day as opposed to Fall Fest’s three. When she told the vendors, “they were all for it.”

Markofski planned for between 60 to 65 vendor spots, but with a 14 x 14 size instead of 20 x 2. Vendors guaranteed filling at least 25 spots, but response was so enthusiastic, only a handful remain. Markofski urges those interested to get in touch quickly. Another difference lies in the types of vendors requested. The focus of Spring Fest will be on spotlighting local crafts and culinary producers, less so on resale items.

Partners quickly joined to participate in the effort. “When it got out, the (Wardensville) Garden Center folks approached us about doing something Wardensville-wide.” They will host food trucks, have live music, and also organize a 5 K race.

Word Play plans to invite authors to showcase.
