Elkins, W.Va., February 13, 2026 — The Monongahela National Forest is hiring seasonal employees for the upcoming recreation season and is encouraging local residents to apply.
“Seasonal employees are essential to keeping the Monongahela accessible and safe for our communities and visitors,” said Cynthia Sandeno, forest supervisor. “From maintaining campgrounds and trailheads to improving signage and responding to visitor needs, seasonal employees help ensure families can enjoy safe weekend camping trips, hikers can confidently navigate our trails, and everyone has a positive experience on their public land.”
The Monongahela is recruiting for a variety of roles, including:
●Recreation and visitor services
●Trail and facility maintenance
●Timber sale preparation
These positions are in addition to seasonal fire hire events, already underway. Bringing on seasonal employees will help improve trails, campgrounds and facilities for safer, reliable and enjoyable recreation experiences for all.
“Seasonal jobs can be a first step into a natural resources career, a way to build experience, or simply a chance to spend the summer working outside,” added Sandeno. “These jobs directly support the recreation access and outdoor traditions that matter so much here in West Virginia. We encourage anyone interested to apply.”
