On Saturday, December 13th, Petersburg’s Potomac Highlands Composite Squadron spent the day honoring our local fallen soldiers at Maple Hill Cemetery.
Three of the members that participated are Grant County Students. The wreaths that were laid upon the graves of the brave were sponsored by multiple people, communities and organizations across the Country. The local Civil Air Patrol squadron would like to sincerely thank everyone that gave donations, time and participation to help National Wreaths Across America Day happen everywhere.
The efforts given forth to show honor and remembrance of the fallen is just a portion of what was given by our Veterans.
The Civil Air Patrol began participating in the Wreaths Across America program in 2006, as an assistant to the Arlington National Cemetery wreath project, which began in 1992. Civil Air Patrol’s goal in Wreaths Across America is to honor the sacrifices of veterans and to attract local and national publicity for Civil Air Patrol. Our local squadron’s participation brings hopes of awareness for both CAP and WAA.
Our squadron and community is just a small part of a tremendous program. This year’s National Wreaths Across America Day included more than 100,000 volunteers donated their time and effort in laying wreaths at more than 5,600 locations. Wreaths Across America’s theme this year was “Keep Moving Forward”. Each following year, Wreaths Across America numbers rise and Potomac Highlands Composite Squadron looks forward to helping again next year.
If anyone would like to find out more information about our local squadron, you are more than welcome to join us at a meeting on Thursday evenings at 6:30 pm.
