Local book lovers have two opportunities to meet authors with West Virginia connections at WordPlay bookstore in Wardensville on October 23 and 24.
On Thursday, October 23, at 6PM, Mike (M.L.) Mallow will discuss his newest book, A Ghost Chases the Horizon, an Appalachian gothic thriller set in and around the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in Weston, West Virginia. A native of Pendleton County, West Virginia now living in Minnesota, Mike is traveling “back home” for this event. He will be in conversation with Jean Flanagan, his friend and former colleague at the Moorefield Examiner.
On Friday, October 24, at 6PM, WordPlay will welcome Sarah L. Morris, WVU professor and author of Lessons from Take Me Home, Country Roads: Identity, (Be)Longing, and Imagined Landscapes. Sarah will discuss her debut, a heartfelt exploration of Country Roads and how it relates to and shapes perceptions of our state and our own feelings about home. Songwriter and guitarist Sarah Rudy, who heads up the indie/alt rock band Hello June, will be on hand to perform her rendition of Country Roads.
The October 23 and 24 author talks will be held at WordPlay, 50 West Main Street, in Wardensville. Events are free; no registration required. Books will be available for purchase and signing at both events. For more information, email info@wordplaywv.com.
