My Unbased Opinion

There’s a new Mrs. Heishman in our family. James Ogden Heishman and Jennifer Hinkle Heishman were married last Thursday, September 24th. I didn’t attend the wedding.

Neither did anyone else, for that matter. They’d both been through wedding hoopla previously and decided on quick and quiet this time around. Thank goodness I didn’t have to dress up and put on a neck tie.

They got married and then they left. Not to worry. They’ll be back living in Moorefield, at work by the time you read this. A quick trip/honeymoon to points East I think. Not sure where they were going, but I doubt they went to see Pope Francis or Xi Jinping, both visiting Washington, D.C. over the weekend. I’d guess they hit Baltimore for good food, good drink and good hotel accommodations around Inner Harbor.

An enjoyable afternoon awhile back with Jenn. One of James’ favorite foods in this world is his Grandmother Heishman’s corn pudding. Mom made it for Thanksgiving, Christmas and other special occasions for as long as I can remember. My sister, Eleanor Heishman learned the fine art of reproducing that wonderful dish, much to James’ (and my) delight. Jenn was determined to learn things which make her man happy.

There’s a fair amount of work involved in making first class corn pudding. Good fresh corn, creamed when stripped from the cob, then frozen, nothing canned. We worked in Sis’ kitchen under her watchful eye and close supervision. She handled the stove, pots, drainers, etc. Jenn and I stripped the corn and filled freezer boxes.

She has the will to work and hands that know how. Little wasted motion, steady. James found a gem for helpmate. No beating around the bush with the lady. Just jump in, learn and do.

Speaking of gem, there’s also gym. Jenn is a runner. Tall for a lady, I’d guess about 5’11”, slender. In side by side pictures she’s just a bit under James who is 6’2”. They both run and/or visit the gym regularly. I think she is fast. Runs an occasional 5k for the fun of it. I think James is faster. He runs for exercise, not sport. There’s track star genes in him. He’ll likely catch her sooner or later. Wedding announcement formation Phoebe gave me mentions Jenn’s parents. Mr. and Mrs. Terry L. Hinkle of Dorcas. Never met them, but I’m going to. I don’t really need to meet them to know they are good, sharp, solid, honest folks. Nobody else could have produced Jennifer.

According to James, Mr. Hinkle has a bigger, fancier Doghouse than mine. Maybe so, but I bet he doesn’t have a gurgling creek beside his and a metal roof close overhead so wonderful on rainy nights. James also mentioned “Big Boy Toys” machinery I surely like. Probably would have liked them better before I began getting too crickety and decrepit to climb on and off with ease. Not dignified falling on my face climbing over a loader bucket.

Jenn is Training Coordinator in human services at America Woodmark outside Moorefield. James is a Partner in Walters Heishman, PLLC, Attorneys at Law. Together they have two small dogs. I have no idea what their names are.

I wish them great good luck at all they do. Long lives together and a good measure of whatever makes them happy together. I’ve thanked Jenn for grabbing James off the line and I’ve told James how much I agree with his choice. Together, they’ll do fine.
