Petersburg High School junior, Payton Metheny has been from Salisbury, Md, to Harrisonburg, VA, to Birmingham, AL and most recently in Atlanta, GA,
Metheny has been on the mound or at short stop for this summer for SBA Mid-Atlantic Bolts 16U team out of Easton, MD. It is a highly competitive, elite travel baseball program serving players Virginia, Maryland and surrounding states. They are ranked 16th nationally in the nation.
In the Alabama tournament, the Bolts made it to the quarterfinals.
His most recent tournament in Atlanta, GA, there were 365 teams. He took the win 8-4 on the mound Sunday. The 2nd game, with Canes Southeast, they took a loss 8-6 to end their tournament run in the Sweet Sixteen.
Tournament record Bolts had 9 wins with 2 losses. They scored 67 runs vs 35 scored by opponents.
Teams start out in pool play and the top 96 make it to bracket play. All the 5-0 teams entered bracket play. 4-1 teams were reviewed as to number of runs allowed.
Metheny’s teammates are from Texas, Penn, Ohio, Florida, Alabama NY, Delaware, Md and VA. Metheny is the only player from WV.
