Moorefield High School hosted its annual Athletic Awards Ceremony showcasing the most outstanding seniors for each sport this season and recognized those student-athletes with top notch character and academic superiority.
Moorefield alum Isaac Van Meter, former state champion in baseball and wrestling, was the keynote speaker for the ceremony and provided great advice to the student-athletes.
Van Meter gave advice about putting in the extra work when no one is looking, comfort today is required for success tomorrow, go the extra mile and don’t carry burdens alone as being tough and asking for help isn’t a weakness. Van Meter referenced I Peter 5:6-7….casting all your anxiety on Him. Humility is recognizing we are not in control of everything, but we can control our effort. Give our worries to Him. Character, discipline and faith will carry you in life.
The Moorefield American Legion Scholar-Athletes of the Year honors were bestowed to Marcus Cremann and Elizabeth Williams.
“It is very special. This award really shows just how much work I put not only into sports, but academically. It represents how much work I have done throughout high school,” Moorefield senior Elizabeth Williams noted.
“It was definitely tough balancing both sports and academics. There were times after games where I stayed up until one or two in the morning finishing an assignment. It was definitely worth it in the end. A lot of times before games I spent a lot of time with my teammates. After the game was the time I had to work on my school work.”
The Most Outstanding Senior Athletes of the Year awards were presented to CiCi Kump and Brock Linville.
The Donnie Schell Award for football was given to Brock Linville.
The Joe Sherman Award for football offensive lineman was presented to Daltan Ault.
The Josh Reider Award for baseball passion was given to Trevor Baldwin.
The most prestigious award given to a Moorefield senior student-athlete is the M.A. Bean Award which encompasses the value of character, integrity, teamwork, faith and academic success.
This award dates back to 1967-68 with the first recipient being Keith Bean.
M.A. Bean started the first gas station and taxi service along with a Ford dealership in Moorefield, but was a competitive athlete.
The finalists for this award submit an essay and former winners select the recipient.
The 2025-26 M.A. Bean Award honor recipient was Brock Linville with the trophy presented by Beth See.
“It is very special to be honored to receive the M.A. Bean award. There is a lot of legacy behind that award. I did my research on it beforehand. I can’t imagine what Mr. Bean felt like with this legacy being left here,” Moorefield senior Brock Linville stated.
“Faith is everything to me. I give God all the glory. I wouldn’t be here today without Him. I thank Him for everything, whether it is for being athletic, smart or what I do on the farm. He has a plan for me and has guided me every step and through every adversity. I will continue to follow His plan. John 13:7 is my favorite verse – What I am doing now you may not know, but eventually you will understand. It is kind of like you lose one critical game and come back the next year and win that game. Sometimes you don’t understand what is happening in your life or why you are injured. There is something good that comes out of every decision. It is very special to me to be recognized and a lot of the success of the team isn’t just because of me. Sports are about teamwork, so instead of looking at me in Moorefield sports it was always seen as being team based.”
A new award this season is the MHS Coach of the Year Award and the inaugural recipient is Wade Armentrout presented by athletic director RaeAnn Orndorff.
