Sylvia Jean (Thorne) Sites, age 88 of Petersburg, WV, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2026 at E.A. Hawse Healthcare in Baker, WV.
Born on March 12, 1938 in Petersburg, WV daughter of the late Marvin Earl Thorne and Ada Rae (Mauzy) Thorne. In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, Chester D. Sites, Sr in 2019; one son, Anthony Earl Sites in 2023 and two infant sons, Kenneth Wayne Sites and Bruce Dwayne Sites; two sisters, Arlena Sites and Betty Barb.
Sylvia is survived by two sons, Chester Daniel “Danny” Sites Jr. and wife Carol Mongold of Moorefield, WV and Dennis L. Sites and wife Janet of Kingwood, WV; nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; one brother, Justin Thorne and wife Ardella of Moorefield, WV and one sister, Juanita Brady and husband Harvey of Petersburg, WV and several nieces and nephews.
Sylvia was a devoted wife and caretaker of her husband who was bedfast for over ten years. She was a faithful member of Brake Covenant Brethren Church where she was actively involved in the children’s ministry for over 50 years. Her passion was working with children and telling people about her faith in Jesus. She also attended Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren.
Sylvia’s family will receive friends on Monday, May 18, 2026 from 6 – 8 PM at Schaeffer Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at 3:00 PM at Brake Covenant Brethren Church with Pastor Craig Howard officiating.
Interment will follow in North Mill Creek Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Children’s Ministry of Brake Covenant Brethren Church, PO Box 831, Petersburg, WV 26847 and Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren, 3597 WV State Rd 55, Moorefield, WV 26836.
