Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets fell 5-1 to Lincoln Varsity Cougars on Tuesday at Lincoln High School despite out-hitting them six to four. Grace Simmons led Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets with two hits.
A single by Brogan Sampson put Lincoln Varsity Cougars on the board in the bottom of the first.
Lincoln Varsity Cougars added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Haleigh Gump walked, and Kennedy Linville laid down a sacrifice bunt, each scoring one run.
Lincoln Varsity Cougars added one run in the third. Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets committed an error, making the score 4-0.
Adriana Elder earned the win for Lincoln Varsity Cougars. The right-handed pitcher allowed six hits and one run (zero earned) over seven innings, striking out seven and walking none. Annie Barr pitched four and two-thirds innings in relief for Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets. The righty gave up three hits and two runs (zero earned) while, striking out two and walking two. Anniston Kite took the loss for Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets. The left-handed pitcher went one and one-third innings, giving up three runs on one hit, striking out none and walking four.
Emmy Crites went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in.
Kerstyn Leggett and Brogan Sampson each collected two hits for Lincoln Varsity Cougars. Adriana Elder, Kennedy Linville, and Brogan Sampson each drove in one run for Lincoln Varsity Cougars. Haleigh Gump led Lincoln Varsity Cougars with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up six walks for the game. Lincoln Varsity Cougars stole four bases in the game.
