East Hardy Varsity Cougars had trouble keeping up with Clarke County Varsity Eagles in a 17-6 loss on Thursday at D G Cooley Elementary School.
East Hardy Varsity Cougars got on the board in the first inning after Mason Hamilton hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.
Clarke County Varsity Eagles jumped into the lead in the bottom of the first when an error scored one run, Aiden Genda singled, scoring two runs, and Logan Davis drew a walk, scoring one run.
Clarke County Varsity Eagles added one run in the second after Brady MacDonald singled to center field following a 7-pitch at-bat.
Clarke County Varsity Eagles scored seven runs on five hits in the bottom of the third inning. Sam Cochran doubled, scoring one run, Brady MacDonald doubled, scoring two runs, Caleb Erickson drew a walk, scoring one run, Aiden Genda singled, scoring one run, and Cam McCarty doubled, scoring two runs.
Clarke County Varsity Eagles scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Aiden Wagner singled, scoring one run, Tucker Fox doubled, scoring two runs, and Sam Cochran singled, scoring two runs.
Tucker Fox earned the win for Clarke County Varsity Eagles. The right-handed pitcher surrendered three hits and six runs (four earned) over five innings, striking out five and walking three. Cole Lantz took the loss for East Hardy Varsity Cougars. The starter went two and two thirds innings, allowing 11 runs (two earned) on seven hits, striking out none and walking six.
Mason Wilkins, Dayton Dove, and Evan Hamilton each collected one hit for East Hardy Varsity Cougars. Mason Hamilton led East Hardy Varsity Cougars with three runs batted in. Evan Hamilton stole three bases.
Clarke County Varsity Eagles tallied 13 hits in the game. Sam Cochran led Clarke County Varsity Eagles with three hits in five at bats from the leadoff position. Jacob Reichert collected two hits for Clarke County Varsity Eagles in four at bats. Caleb Erickson led Clarke County Varsity Eagles with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating 10 walks for the game. Caleb Erickson and Jacob Reichert each stole multiple bases for Clarke County Varsity Eagles. Clarke County Varsity Eagles ran wild on the base paths, collecting six stolen bases for the game. Clarke County Varsity Eagles were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Jacob Reichert made the most plays with four.
East Hardy Varsity Cougars will travel to Tygarts Valley Bulldogs Varsity for their next game on Friday.
