Matthew Iman shut down Petersburg, throwing a complete game shutout and leading Moorefield Varsity YellowJackets to a 1-0 victory on Tuesday.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Moorefield Varsity YellowJackets pitchers struck out five, while Petersburg sat down 11.
A triple by Blake Snyder put Moorefield Varsity YellowJackets on the board in the bottom of the fourth.
Payton Metheny took the loss for Petersburg. The hurler went six innings, surrendering one run on four hits, striking out 11 and walking three.
Blake Snyder led Moorefield Varsity YellowJackets with one run batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Edison Metheny led Moorefield Varsity YellowJackets with two hits in three at bats from the leadoff position.
Lukas Wolford led Petersburg with two hits in three at bats. Petersburg were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Brody Sites had the most chances in the field with 11.
Moorefield Varsity Yellow Jackets will travel to Tygarts Valley Bulldogs Varsity for their next game on Friday.
