Mason Hamilton drove in four runs on two hits to lead East Hardy Varsity Cougars past Tucker County Mountain Lions 16-1 on Friday at River City Park. Mason Hamilton doubled in the fourth scoring two, hit a sacrifice fly in the second scoring one, and doubled in the third scoring one.
East Hardy Varsity Cougars got on the board in the top of the first inning after one run scored on another play, Eli Combs singled, scoring three runs, and Mason Wilkins singled, scoring one run.
East Hardy Varsity Cougars added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Mason Hamilton hit a sacrifice fly, Dayton Dove singled to center field, and Gage Dove singled down the left field line, each scoring one run.
East Hardy Varsity Cougars added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Mason Hamilton doubled down the left field line, Tucker County Mountain Lions committed an error, and Dayton Dove singled to the left side of the infield, each scoring one run.
East Hardy Varsity Cougars scored five runs on four hits in the top of the fourth inning. Mason Hamilton doubled, scoring two runs, Levi Price doubled, scoring one run, Shayne Sisler singled, scoring one run, and Ryan Gosnell drew a walk, scoring one run.
Dayton Dove earned the win for East Hardy Varsity Cougars. The hurler surrendered two hits and one run over four innings, striking out six and walking one. Josh Crossland took the loss for Tucker County Mountain Lions. The pitcher went three and one-third innings, allowing 15 runs (12 earned) on 10 hits, striking out one and walking five.
East Hardy Varsity Cougars collected 12 hits in the game. Dayton Dove went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead East Hardy Varsity Cougars in hits. Shayne Sisler collected two hits for East Hardy Varsity Cougars in three at bats. Evan Hamilton paced East Hardy Varsity Cougars with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game. Shayne Sisler, Patrick Mills, Evan Hamilton, and Mason Hamilton each stole multiple bases for East Hardy Varsity Cougars. East Hardy Varsity Cougars stole 14 bases in the game. East Hardy Varsity Cougars didn’t commit a single error in the field. Mason Wilkins had the most chances in the field with four.
Owen Helmick and Josh Crossland were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected one hit for Tucker County Mountain Lions. Owen Helmick went 1-for-2 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in.
East Hardy Varsity Cougars play at home on Saturday against Clarke County Varsity Eagles in their next game.
