Grant Memorial Hospital proudly announced Dr. Benjamin Leslie as the recipient of the 2026 Dr. Makani Provider Excellence Award. The award recognizes a physician or advanced practice provider who exemplifies the highest standards of quality, compassion, teamwork, and leadership. Established last year, the award was first presented to inaugural recipient Dr. Dewey Bensenhaver and was created to celebrate providers who embody the hospital’s mission—delivering patient-centered care while fostering a collaborative and forward-thinking environment.
The selection criteria emphasize excellence in quality of care, the ability to unite teams, a consistently positive attitude, strong leadership, meaningful impact on patients and staff, effective teamwork, and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
Dr. Leslie, who serves as Chief of Staff, Director of Cardiology, and Rehabilitation Medical Director, was nominated for his exceptional contributions across each of these areas.
According to the nomination, Dr. Leslie “consistently puts patients first and collaborates thoughtfully with the entire care team,” demonstrating an unwavering commitment to quality care. He was also recognized for fostering strong collaboration among physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, and leadership, creating a cohesive and supportive environment.
Even in high-pressure situations, Dr. Leslie maintains a positive, solution-focused attitude. His leadership—grounded in professionalism, integrity, and compassion—sets a strong example for colleagues throughout the organization. The nomination also highlighted his impact on both staff and patients, citing his dedication to supporting colleague development, improving processes, and strengthening the organization.
