Offense Hard To Come By In Moorefield Varsity Yellow Jackets Defeat To Hampshire Varsity Trojans

Both teams were strong on the bump on Tuesday, but Hampshire Varsity Trojans was just a little bit stronger at the plate in their 3-0 victory over Moorefield Varsity Yellow Jackets. Blake Snyder started the game for Moorefield Varsity Yellow Jackets and recorded 15 outs.

Hampshire Varsity Trojans opened the scoring in the fifth after an error scored two runs.

Ayden Crabtree earned the win for Hampshire Varsity Trojans. The starter allowed one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out four and walking three.

“We were lucky to win and even get on base tonight. They are a very good team and limited our chances. The game was scoreless for five innings. If it wasn’t for their mistakes, we would still be playing baseball right now,” Hampshire coach Ken Maiers noted.

Blake Snyder took the loss for Moorefield Varsity Yellow Jackets. The hurler went five innings, surrendering two runs (zero earned) on three hits, striking out three and walking none.

Oliver Crites went 1-for-3 at the plate to lead Moorefield Varsity Yellow Jackets in hits. Moorefield Varsity Yellow Jackets turned one double play in the game.

“I thought Blake [Snyder] and [Matthew] Iman threw very well and pitched us out of some situations tonight. I thought our defense played really well and made a lot of plays in the field that kept the game close and gave us an opportunity late in the game. We just have to put together our situational hitting. Overall we had good pitching and defense. They are a good hitting team, so making outs when we needed to is important and we need to put runs on the scoreboard,” Moorefield coach Wade Armentrout remarked.

Adam Riggleman led Hampshire Varsity Trojans with one run batted in. The left fielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Mason Slade and Brayden Hott each collected two hits for Hampshire Varsity Trojans. Brayden Hott stole two bases. Hampshire Varsity Trojans stole four bases in the game. Hampshire Varsity Trojans turned one double play in the game. Hampshire Varsity Trojans were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Zeke McDonald had the most chances in the field with six.

Next up for Moorefield Varsity Yellow Jackets is a game at Musselman Varsity Applemen on Wednesday.
