The Hardy County Chamber of Commerce recently hosted the inaugural Hardy County Day at the State Capitol. While it was certainly a learning experience, the day was a strong success and an excellent opportunity to showcase Hardy County and the many businesses and organizations that make our community special.
Several local businesses and agencies were represented at Hardy County Day, including Buena Vista Farms, EA Hawse Health, ER Excavating, Hardy County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Hardy County Rural Development Authority, Hardy County Planning Commission, Lost River Butcher Block, Mullin’s Hotel, Mullin’s 1847 Restaurant, PCB, Pilgrim’s Fresh, Questr Automation, The Glass House, The Shooter’s Den, and Weese Farms. Their participation helped present a diverse and positive picture of Hardy County to state leaders and staff.
During the day, attendees were able to meet with Delegate Bryan Ward and Senate President Randy Smith. Unfortunately, Senator Jay Taylor was under the weather and unable to attend.
Delegate Ward provided a detailed overview of current legislative activity, while Senate President Smith shared insight into efforts to attract new businesses to West Virginia and his vision for the state’s future. Many from our delegation were able to speak briefly with Senator Shelly Moore Capito as she was at the capitol to file for re-election to the US Senate.
A highlight of the day was the boxed lunch provided to legislators and their staff, made possible through generous donations from several Hardy County businesses. This collaborative effort truly demonstrated the spirit of our local business community. Contributions included:

O’Neill’s Restaurant, which supplied homemade potato chips

PCB and EA Hawse Health, which provided financial contributions
The Chamber would also like to extend its appreciation to the Hardy County Commissioners, Steve Schetrom, Dave Workman, and Jay Fansler, as well as County Coordinator Wendy Branson and Public Information Officer Peggy Moomau for their efforts in helping make Hardy County Day a success. We are sincerely grateful to everyone who contributed their time, resources, and support to make the day possible.
Looking ahead, the Chamber has several upcoming events on the horizon. Grant County Bank will host an After Hours event on February 25, followed by Main Street Gallery on March 27, and the Hardy County Committee on Aging on April 22. In addition, the Chamber will host a cash-prize cornhole tournament on May 2, with more details to be announced soon.
We hope to see many familiar faces, and some new ones, at these events, and we look forward to continuing to engage with and support our wonderful Hardy County community.
