Potomac Highlands Composite Squadron participated in Adopt-A-Highway Program on October 16th. A total of nine bags of trash were cleaned up from the sides of the Johnson Run Road, continued to the airport grounds. There were five Grant County students and three adult members from both Grant and Hardy Counties that participated in this recent event. The local squadron conducts four Adopt-A-Highway events annually. Our Cadets develop a sense of pride associated with helping keep the local roadways clean of trash and debris, as well as serving their community.

Civil Air Patrol holds Volunteer Service at a high standard; it is one of CAP’s core values.

Volunteer Service allows Civil Air Patrol members to serve others by positively influencing their community and making the world a better place for everyone. Civil Air Patrol’s Core Values are based on the Air Force’s Core Values. An example is the Air Force says, “service before self”, one way that Civil Air Patrol resonates that, is as “volunteer service”.

Adopt-A-Highway was established in the late 1980s to improve the quality of the state’s environment by encouraging public involvement. This program believes that roadsides are a visitor’s introduction to a community and leave lasting impressions. Increasing tourism in our small town is on the rise and Potomac Highlands Composite Squadron hopes their efforts in regular Adopt-A-Highway participation will only positively influence our visitor’s impressions of all that Petersburg has to offer.

To find out more information about all the benefits Civil Air Patrol has to offer its Community, State and Nation, join PHCS for a weekly meeting on Thursdays at 6:30pm located at 400 Airport Road in Petersburg. Don’t have time to visit? That’s OK, feel free to learn more online at www.gocivilairpatrol.com.
