Grant County Arts Council, Inc. presents harpist Brittany Blair in a concert on Tues. Oct. 28, at 7:00 p.m., at the Petersburg Presbyterian Church. This event is open to the public. There is no charge, but those attending may make a free will offering at the door.
Ms. Blair will perform on a concert (pedal) harp and will play a mix of sacred and secular music.
Ms. Blair received her Master’s degree in Harp Performance from the University of Michigan’s School of Music, Theater and Dance. She also holds degrees from West Virginia University in Harp Performance and Piano Performance, with an area of emphasis in Pedagogy. She teaches harp and piano students of all ages.
The concert harp is certainly one of the impressive instruments in the orchestra, typically standing about 6 feet tall and weighing about 80 pounds. It is just one of many versions of harps that have existed through time, stretching back to ancient civilizations. Harps are especially associated with Ireland, where it is considered a national symbol, and Wales.
On Wednesday, Ms .Blair will perform for the combined middle school and high school band at Petersburg High School. In the afternoon, she will perform for K through 4 th grade at Union Educational Complex.
All three performances are supported by memberships and donations at Grant County Arts Council by individuals, families, and businesses.
