CHARLESTON – West Virginia State Auditor Mark Hunt released the following statement on the passing of Walt
Helmick, former state senator and agriculture commissioner:
“During my years in the House of Delegates, Walt Helmick was serving in the Senate, and I remember the respect he earned on both sides of the Capitol. His decades of service – from Pocahontas County to statewide office – reflected a lifelong commitment to West Virginia and its people.
Beyond his public service, Walt’s jovial nature and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. Walt cared deeply about his community and our state’s future, and his leadership will be remembered for years to come. I extend my deepest sympathy and prayers to his wife, Rita, and their family.”
