Miriam Leatherman holds up a lap robe she made as part of a service project by the Highland Star Quilters Guild. The lap robes will be exhibited at the 2025 Quilt Show prior to being donated this fall.

Highland Star Quilters Guild invites the community to its Heritage Weekend Quilt Show, “Sharing Memories Through Fabric Arts: Quilts, Bears, Pillows and More,” on Saturday, September 27 and Sunday, September 28 in the Moorefield Elementary School. The event will be open Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The public is invited and encouraged to share submissions of fabric arts for display in the show, especially those that fit the “Memories” theme. Items will be received at the Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren on Thursday, September 25 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 pm, and at the Hardy County Public Library on Friday, September 26 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Items will be returned to their owners starting at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at Moorefield Elementary School in the main entrance lobby. Visitors to the show will find an array of textile art spanning traditional and contemporary quilting, handmade fabric bears, decorative pillows and other sewn treasures that reflect the guild’s mission of preserving and sharing fiber-art traditions. Also on display will be samples of a Guild service project – lap robes to be donated to the Cancer and Infusion Center at Grant Memorial Hospital. Younger visitors will have the opportunity to interact and learn about quilting, and may walk away with a small treat!

Admission to the Quilt Show is $2 for adults; children and students are admitted free. The show is presented by the Highland Star Quilters Guild and will be held in the Moorefield Elementary School gymnasium (enter via the main entrance). The exhibit is a family-friendly opportunity to view workmanship, celebrate local makers, and enjoy the warm stories behind each piece. The main school entrance lobby will house a Country Store stocked and staffed by Highland Star’s quilters and crafters. Admission is free, and shoppers can browse a variety of handcrafted items for sale, including table runners, placemats, holiday decorations, bowl cozies, cards, rope bowls and more—perfect for gifts or a special treat for the home!
