Richard “Rick” Lawrence Branson, 77, of Baker, WV passed away on Friday, September 12, 2025 at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA.
Born on September 16, 1947 in Buckhannon, WV, he was the son of the late Lawrence Elkart Branson and Bertie Lucille (Fitzwater) Branson.
Rick was a graduate of Mathias High School, Class of 1965. Professionally, Rick built a long and successful career as a heavy machine operator. He contributed his skills to pipeline projects as a welder, dozer, and backhoe operator, played a part in the construction of windmill projects, and most recently worked on the Corridor H project until his retirement. Even after retirement, Rick continued to contribute in many ways to the people in his community.
Rick had a deep passion for the outdoors and loved spending his time hunting, fishing, and competing in shooting matches. Over the years, he received a dozen Trophy Fish citations from WV DNR and was happiest when spending his days on the water with friends and family. He also passed on his love for the outdoors to his children and grandchildren, creating memories that will be cherished for generations.
Rick is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Sherry (Bowman) Branson, a son, Rhyan Branson, a daughter, Rhonda Constable (Dwayne), a sister, Karen Sue (Branson) Strawderman, 4 grandchildren, Drew Constable (Amy), Seth Constable (Michelle), Ashton Harvey (Madison) , Gabrielle Branson, and 3 great-grandchildren, Amelia Harvey, Landon Burns, and Eden Constable.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at McKee Funeral Home, Baker, WV with Daryl Dunsmore officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Baker, WV. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until time of service. Please feel free to dress casual.
