Moorefield Boys and Girls Soccer landed in the Falcons nest for the first matches in program history last Tuesday, but Frankfort ousted the Yellow Jackets without fanfare as the talons wreaked havoc for back-to-back 7-nil shutouts in Short Gap.

“It was a good game, especially that first half. We’re proud to host them, especially in their first game in school history. I remember being on the first team in school history back in 1999. It is a rough start for you. They were strong and never gave up on anything and that is something needed moving forward. We learned a lot from the second half of our last game. We need better passing and movement up front. [Bolinger] She was able to be at the right spot at the right time. She collected rebounds that the goalie didn’t make. That is the reason she is there,” Frankfort Girls Soccer coach William Brooks commented.

Despite the outcome, the Yellow Jackets showed great determination and hustle throughout the entire games.

Moorefield Soccer re-purposed old basketball jerseys for the first match, since the game jersey shipment was late.

Frankfort Girls Soccer’s Brielle Bolinger created the must damage with four goals scored against the Yellow Jackets.

“It was very exciting [goals]. Moorefield was pretty good, maybe some more touches on the ball, but they were pretty good for the first time,” Frankfort Brielle Bolinger said.

Early in the match, Moorefield’s Elizabeth Williams stole the ball before it was taken away and forced out of bounds on a defensive play by Grace Simmons.

A steal by Moorefield’s Jocelyn Wagner appeared to set up an attack, but the Yellow Jackets were too quick moving forward for an offsides.

Moorefield goalkeeper Kailynn Penkov blocked the first two shots on goal by the Falcons and another attempt went wide.

“It feels great. The girls are excited, especially with the runs we made and the defense on the back end. There were 34 shots on goal, so now we have a number to shoot for and pull that down a bit. We had only seven goals go in and that pretty good, considering I had two goalies who never played before. It was phenomenal play by them. Our defensive line was strong, but we need to work on our midfield and high ball possessions. We need more direction and less ricochet. We have the unity and the skill, despite what the scoreboard says. so we are all really excited about the season overall. We have some things that we will clean up. Tamiru cleared another charge by the Falcons, then Orndorff was back and Cambero made another save.

Moorefield’s Jake Lumia stole the ball and fed Zin Myat, but the Falcons defense cleared the advancement.

It was good to see them. I thought it was consistent. I thought we controlled the game, but at times we could have been more clinical and maybe finished some more. We made some chances out of nothing. I felt pretty good about the outcome. It is a symptom of the team we have. We have a lot of very talented group of guys who can put the ball in the back of the net. We were happy to share our tradition of greeting the fans with Moorefield and hope they continue it. It is something special that is done in soccer,” Frankfort Boys Soccer coach Jason Vaughan said.

Frankfort collected the 7-0 win in Moorefield’s first ever game, then greeted the fans and shared that tradition with the Yellow Jackets having them march over to take a bow for the fans, too.

“They were nervous but they were very excited. Frankfort is a tough team and we knew that coming in. We gave it our best and that’s all I can ask. They played a little scared in the first half, but held it together in the second half. I am proud of them. Frankfort staff was super. I would love to play them again. I learned a lot from their boys,” Moorefield Boys Soccer coach Larry Foster noted.
