Moorefield Volleyball has the net set in the Hive for success with accurate serves and hits coming this season in Class AA action.
The Yellow Jackets will be led by head coach Kellan Snyder and assistant coach Megan Phares.
“Goals for this year are to get better everyday, every set and to play like a team, Moorefield Volleyball coach Kellan Snyder remarked.
Moorefield will be led by senior outside hitter Raleigh Kuykendall and senior setter CiCi Kump, who also provides hitting power and swift serves.
The Yellow Jackets junior class will be Jocelyn Wagner, Lexi Vanmeter, Annie Barr, Brenna See, Aubrey Kidwell and Aryana Hinz.
This talented group is swift on the back row, while Vanmeter and See provide dynamic hitting.
Moorefield’s sophomores are Kalitha Keplinger and Emmy Crites contributing depth at the service line and net play.
The Yellow Jackets freshman are Gracyn Williams, Chloe Champ, Anniston Kite, Sophie Pillus, Ella Poling and Kiersten Rinker who all show quickness on the floor with passing and accurate serves.
“Team chemistry is high despite only having two returning starters. We look to those two starters to bring strong leadership. Our Juniors are growing as volleyball players every day. They are sponges, love learning the game and play hard. Our sophomores are going to fill in our gaps and play a very important roll on defense, although they are very versatile,” Coach Snyder noted.
Moorefield started the season with a 3-1 loss against Hampshire.
The Yellow Jackets visited South Harrison on Monday and hosted Keyser on Tuesday.
Moorefield faces cross county rival East Hardy in the Hive tomorrow and travels to Pendleton County next Tuesday.
The Yellow Jackets battle the Cougars again in Baker on October 7.
Moorefield’s season finale will be against Frankfort on October 16.
“Our schedule is challenging. This is only our second season playing double A ball, but we look forward to playing all the talented teams. We are lucky in the fact that we don’t have to travel far in this area to play solid teams with great coaches. Our.We have some quads scheduled that will allow us to see teams in our section that we wouldn’t otherwise see. Again, we always look forward to playing local teams in our area,” Coach Snyder stated.
The Yellow Jackets’ team motto is: ‘girls just want to have fun’.
Despite the loss, Coach Snyder was impressed with what he witnessed.
“It was great! They are super talented and will be for awhile. They have lots of hitters they come at you with. Solid setter and a libero who wants the ball. I was very proud of my girls. They never backed down. They were flying around the court and not letting ball hit the floor. We had some struggles at the net and unforced errors that set us back. But a good match to build on,” Coach Snyder concluded.
