Outpouring of community love shown for Run For Joy

There was an outpouring of love from the community gathering together for the Joy Snyder Coby Memorial Foundation’s seventh annual Run For Joy 5K and Walk at Brighton Park.

The memory of Moorefield teacher and track coach Joy Coby was remembered with compassion, grace and love as family, friends and colleagues shared stories in the pavilion and those dedicated enough to endure the heat traversed Brighton Park whether by running or walking.

There were local food truck vendors, Twin Timbers Coffee and Creamery and Highway 304, fueling the spectators and competitors at the event along with local artists Chaotic Color Brats and Morgantown based The Newbees, founded by Coby’s sons Paxton and Xian, shared their beekeeping business with specially formulated honey and antioxidant propolis tincture.

“It is truly a blessing to see all these people from the community here showing support and remembering my mom. We made special designs for the bottles and worked with beekeeper Bill Barr to have honey ready for today. Xian does all the science and worked hard to create this first batch of propolis tincture. It is great adding it to any food. Our spicy honey is a perfect addition to wings or even pizza ,” The Newbees co-founder Paxton Coby noted.

A special glow walk for all the families was a huge hit to conclude the festivities.

The Joy Snyder Coby Memorial Foundation has raised $30,000 for local school scholarships and the endowment keeps growing.

“Run for Joy 2025 is officially in the books, and what an unforgettable evening it was. Despite the hot, hot weather, our hearts were full as we gathered to honor Joy’s memory and give back to our community. To everyone who attended, supported from near or far, and helped make this event meaningful – thank you. Your presence and participation made all the difference. A special shoutout to our amazing vendors, generous corporate sponsors, and the family and friends who pour their tie, energy, and love into this event year after year, We couldn’t do it without you,” Excerpt from Joy Snyder Coby Memorial Foundation Facebook post.

The 2025 Run For Joy 5K winners were: Champion Mike Landis (24:10), Kurt Gurka, Javi Elias, Kelsey Mongold, Carly Duelley and Jeremy Conners.

The Joy Snyder Coby Memorial Foundation is always looking for support and any help is appreciated for the cause which can be made by Venmo or PayPal @JSCmemorialfund or through messaging on the Facebook page.
