Today, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) announced a significant funding initiative aimed at improving truck parking in West Virginia. The state has received a $24,837,048 grant through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s BUILD program. This funding is part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

The grant will be used to expand truck parking capacity at three existing facilities operated by the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) along interstates I-81, I-64, and I-79 in Berkeley, Cabell, and Monongalia Counties. Earlier this year, Chairman Capito expressed her support for this project in a letter backing WVDOH’s application.

“Efforts to upgrade facilities along West Virginia portions of major interstates will enhance the safety of our drivers, support the regional and national movement of goods, and encourage economic investments across our state,” said Chairman Capito. She added that as Chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, she prioritized this investment and expressed gratitude for the Department of Transportation recognizing its importance. “This support will help WVDOT and WVDOH continue their mission of safe and efficient transportation in West Virginia.”
