Petersburg Church Women United will celebrate World Community Day on Saturday, Nov. 7, at noon, at the Grove Street United Methodist Church. This celebration focuses on the unity, joy, and power of Christian fellowship in a community. World Community Day began in 1943 from discussions by various denominations asking that a day be set aside in the fall of each year for the study of peace by church women.
World Community Day continues to emphasize peace but has been broadened to include justice, a vital partner of peace.
Mary Ann “Terri” McDade will be honored as the 2026 Valiant Woman on World Community Day. In Church Women United, a Valiant Woman is a woman who has given service to CWU, her own church, and her community for an extended period of time.
She can be someone who leads in a quiet way through her example.
Terri was born the second child of the late John and Ethel McDade; she was little sister to Jack McDade. She was raised in Gloucester City, NJ. After graduating from Gloucester Catholic High School, Terri went on to be a medical assistant for an internist.
While working there she joined the Runnemede Fire Company’s ladies’ auxiliary, where she served as an officer and became one of the first E.M.T.’s on their ambulance.
Terri worked in management for several companies over the years. She retired from Cumberland Farms Convenience Stores after twenty-one years, holding positions in management and supervision.
While there, Terri bought her first home, renovated it, became a landlord, all while obtaining her Real Estate license with Coldwell Banker.
After retiring Terri volunteered with Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for several years. Being bored with retirement, she worked as a florist for eleven years.
She joined the Ferrell Fire Company ladies’ auxiliary. She also became a member of the Philadelphia Civil War Roundtable and the Square Circle Gun Club Ladies’ Auxiliary.
Prior to moving to West Virginia five years ago, she was an adult volunteer for the 4-H of New Jersey.
Terri is a member of Epiphany of the Lord Parish in Moorefield and volunteers at Church of God Food Pantry in Moorefield, helping wherever she is needed. A few years ago, she joined the Petersburg CWU and serves on the Lenten luncheon committee.
She is blessed to be surrounded by people who share the love of the Lord. Terri exemplifies a Valiant Woman in her church and community!
Anyone is welcome to attend the World Community Day. Cost for the luncheon is $5.00.
