Summer vacation fun ends in Broadway as the Reds find the Bruins sipping a 15-6 victory on lounge chairs.
Broadway coasted to a 4-0 lead in the second inning, but the Reds refused to have the vacation time ruined with four runs scored in the third inning to balance out the contest.
However, the Bruins clawed back for an 8-4 lead in the bottom half of the third frame.
Bridgewater found itself in a deeper hole as Broadway slashed five more runs in the fourth inning to go up 13-4.
The Reds managed one run in the fifth and seventh innings, but Broadway responded in kind to secure the 15-6 win.
Wilson took the loss for the Reds with four strikeouts and allowed four hits.
East Hardy High School and Bridgewater College alumnus Brett Tharp pitched one inning with two strikeouts, while contributing one hit and three runs scored in his three plate appearances.
Tharp showed his skill as a shortstop when not on the mound.
East Hardy High School alumnus Shayne Sisler was the Reds right fielder for the evening and earned one walk in the game.
Snyder was given the win on the mound for the Bruins, pitching 2.2 innings with a game-best five strikeouts.
Tharp smacked a double in the third inning, then the Reds loaded the bases for Keegan Oliver to crush a grand slam tying the game at 4-apiece.
Despite the Reds fireworks, Broadway didn’t let Bridgewater enjoy vacation with 10 runs scored over three straight innings to cruise for the victory.
The Reds still had players on vacation for the rest of the week.
Broadway forfeited its next contest due to lack of players with the win credited to Massanutten.
The Reds played Clover Hill before hosting Broadway for a doubleheader on Sunday.
The playoffs are coming up this weekend after all the rain make-up games are tallied.
