Hardy County PSD’s chief operator, Kevin Markwood, was recognized at the June Hardy County Public Service Board meeting for receiving the Perkins Boynton award for West Virginia operator of the year at the recent West Virginia American Water Works Association conference held at Canaan Valley Resort. The honor was awarded Tuesday, May 19, 2026 during the conference’s awards banquet. The Perkins Boynton Award honors outstanding water operators in West Virginia for exemplary skill, leadership, and contributions to the water works industry.

This is the first time an employee of Hardy County PSD has received an award from the WVAWWA.

Kevin has been employed as an operator with Hardy County PSD for over 22 years, having served as chief operator for the past 14 years. As chief operator, he oversees both water and wastewater field and plant operations for over 2,000 residences and business throughout Hardy County.

A lifelong resident of Hardy County, Kevin and his wife Becky are the proud parents of a son and a daughter and the grandparents of three grandchildren. Outside of work, he enjoys hunting, riding motorcycles and traveling. He has long been active as a volunteer in Moorefield Little League and actively assists in the day-to-day running of his family’s farm.
