State Bound: Hardy County sending 48 to Charleston

The West Virginia Golden Horseshoe is a time honored tradition testing the Mountain State knowledge of students and they are knighted by the governor.
The Cougars have added to the history books for future students to remember as East Hardy Boys Track garnered its first ever Class A Region II Track Championship in Keyser.
Hardy County will be sending 48 athletes to the state track meet in Charleston this weekend.
East Hardy Boys Track edged Tucker County by nine points with a total of 172 points which included seven gold medals and six silver medals.
The Cougars Boys team has 15 state qualifiers.
East Hardy’s Korbin Miller was the Class A Region II Champion for the discus (136-0.5) and shot put (40-10).
The gold medal field event domination continued as Evan Hamilton took the top honors for the long jump (19-11.75).
Evan Hamilton kept the gold medal bling shining for the Cougars with Region II championships in the 100 dash (11.02), 200 dash (23.23) and 4×100 relay (44.63) along with Mason Hamilton, Nehemiah Graham and Khristian Bauserman.
East Hardy Boys shuttle hurdles crew took the region crown in a time of 1:06.95 with Khristian Bauserman, Gideon Good, Angelo Loulis and Aden Smith.
The Cougars silver medalists were: 200 – Mason Hamilton, Discus – Gideon Good, 800 – Kane Persinger, 110 High Hurdles – Gideon Good, Shot Put – Bodie Brill, 300 Intermediate Hurdles – Angelo Loulis.
East Hardy Boys Track earned at-large state berths for 100 – 3rd Mason Hamilton & 4th Nehemiah Graham, Long Jump 4th Angelo Loulis, High Jump – 3rd Gideon Good (placed), 4×200 3rd (Bauserman, Graham, Silas Schetrom, Levi Price), 4×800 3rd (Persinger, Jonathan Montgomery, Hayden Myers, Brice Toulomelis).
East Hardy Girls Track has 10 members competing in Charleston which includes seven Class A Region II Track silver medalists.
100 Hurdles – 2nd Madison Kerr 16.01, 300 Hurdles – 2nd Morganne Miller 51.33, 200m – 2nd Madison Kerr 29.16, 4×800 2nd 13:54.63 (Shaye Barb, Madison Cowgill, Jaiden Gordon, Brianna Hamilton), 4×200 2nd 2:00.76 (Xavia Barber, Alexis McKinney, Morganne Miller, Madilyn Funk), 4×100 2nd 56.01 (Madison Kerr, Xavia Barber, Madilyn Funk, Morganne Miller), 3200m 2nd Shaye Barb 14:29.58.
East Hardy Girls Track had four bronze medalists earn state bids: 100 Hurdles – Morganne Miller, 100m – Xavia Barber 14.00, Shot Put – Savannah Wilkins 27-10, 4×400 5:52.93 (McKinney, Cowgill, Hamilton, Gordon).
“We had an outstanding day at the Regional Track Meet in Keyser with 7 gold medals, 25 state qualifiers and a Boys Regional Championship for the first time in school history! I am so proud of all of our athletes for their work and determination to compete at a high level. We still have work to do over the next week, but we have high hopes for bringing more medals home from the State Track Meet in Charleston on May 22nd and 23rd,” East Hardy Track coach Rachel Schetrom commented.
Moorefield Girls Track collected three Class AA Region II Championship gold medals to lead 10 to the state tournament including a pair of alternates.
Moorefield Girls Track’s Parvatee Snyder won a trio of gold medals in the 100m (13.09), 200m (27.18) and anchored the 4×100 champions 53.19 (Madison Thompson, Schanica Barthelemy, Jocelyn Wagner, Snyder).
Moorefield Girls 4×200 relay won the silver medal for a state berth in 1:54.86 (Barthelemy, Wagner, Snyder, Sydney Lancaster).
Moorefield Girls 4×400 relay placed sixth and earned an at-large state bid 5:01.48 (Thompson, Lancaster, Omayeris Ortiz Martinez, Chloe Leroux).
Moorefield Girls Track shuttle hurdles crew took fifth place in 1:19.07 and a state bid (LeeAnne Coon, Lancaster, Leroux, Wagner).
The Yellow Jackets Girls Track state alternates will be Elizabeth Williams and Faith Snyder.
Moorefield Boys Track secured one Class AA Region II Track silver medal and a plethora of at-large bids to the state tournament as 13 Yellow Jackets buzz to Charleston which included three alternates.
Carter Sherman had the best finish for the Moorefield Boys Track earning the Class AA Region-up for the 110 hurdles in 16.21.
The Yellow Jackets would earn five at-large state bids from the regional meet in Keyser:
4×100 3rd 45.77 – Javier Acosta, Levi Davis, Josiah Howard, Bill Lewis-Nieves; 4×200 3rd 1:35.95 – Acosta, Howard, Lewis-Nieves, Jordan Fields; 4×400 4th 3:45.44 – Acosta, Fields, Chernet Ansani, Hector Luna-Davy; Shuttle Hurdles 3rd 1:02.97 – Sherman, Acosta, Jhon Paul, Jackson Kerns; Long Jump 3rd 19-6.5 – Bill Lewis-Nieves, 800m 3rd 2:06.42 – Chernet Ansani.
Moorefield Boys Track state alternates will be: Teagan Eversole, Matthew McDonald and Nathan Crites.
SO proud of our track kids. We have 23 including alternates who are going to state track next week,” Moorefield Track Coach Linda Wright noted.
East Hardy and Moorefield look to bring home state track medals this weekend from Charleston’s Laidley Field.
