Washington Softball crashed the Yellow Jackets senior night festivities in the Hive with doubleheader shutout sweep scores of 11-0 and 10-0.
The Yellow Jackets honored their trio of seniors: Sara Baldwin, CiCi Kump and Raleigh Kuykendall.
Kump, who has been injured all season, was the honorary leadoff batter for both games. Baldwin was a designated hitter and Kuykendall played first base.
Baldwin is a member of the National Honor Society, Grow Your Own program and Student Council and MHS Class Historian. Baldwin is active in 4-H and church youth group. Baldwin plans to attend Fairmont State University to study Early Education.
Kump competed in volleyball, basketball and softball. Kump is the MHS National Honor Society President, Student Council member and MHS Senior Class Vice President. Kump will be attending the University of Kentucky to study Human Health Sciences with an emphasis in Physical Therapy.
Kuykendall competed in volleyball, basketball and softball. Kuykendall is a member of NHS and Student Council. Kuykendall is an honorary Secretary of State. Kuykendall plans to attend West Virginia University to study nursing and become a nurse practitioner specializing in aesthetics.
Despite the loss, the Yellow Jackets found joy in cheering and making huge decorations for the seniors.
Moorefield’s Sara Baldwin and Emmy Crites collected the lone two hits in the 11-0 loss to the Patriots.
Washington pitcher Smith picked up the win going three innings with two strikeouts and two walks and one hit allowed, while Valentine pitched two innings allowing one hit.
Moorefield starting pitcher Annie Barr tossed three strikeouts and issued three walks, while allowing eight runs on 10 hits over three innings. Barr took a hard shot to the wrist, but stayed in the game.
Makayla Myers tossed two innings with five hits and three runs and one strikeout. O’Hara paced the Patriots with four hits, while scoring thrice and adding two RBI. Valentine added three hits at the plate and scored three runs for Washington.
Washington out-hit the Yellow Jackets 12-3 during the 10-0 win to complete the doubleheader sweep.
Moorefield’s Anniston Kite allowed eight hits and six runs with one strikeout and two walks and took a sharp hit, too. Myers finished in the circle with four hits allowed and four runs with four walks.
Moorefield’s three hits were made by Caroline Auville, Sara Baldwin and Grace Simmons.
Washington’s Musser smacked two hits including a triple and three RBI. Burns and Valentine each made two hits for the Patriots, too.
O’Hara pitched seven strikeouts over three innings to close the game, following Valentine’s three innings for the win allowing three hits and one strikeout.
Moorefield (third seed) started the Class AA Region II Tournament playoffs against Berkeley Springs in a double elimination format.
Lincoln and Braxton County are in the same bracket with the Yellow Jackets as all the teams battle for a spot at the state tournament.
Petersburg is the top seed in a separate bracket awaiting the winner of Frankfort or South Harrison.
