PETERSBURG, WV — Grant Memorial Hospital marked a significant step forward in expanding local healthcare services with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 30, celebrating the opening of its new Cardiology Clinic.
The event coincided with the clinic’s first day of operation, making the occasion especially meaningful as the hospital also welcomed its first cardiology patients. The addition of cardiology services addresses a critical need in Petersburg and the surrounding rural communities, where access to specialized heart care has historically required travel outside the area.
Located on the Grant Memorial Hospital campus at 65 Hospital Drive, Suite 105, the clinic will operate Monday through Friday, offering general cardiology services. Mary Wimer, NP, will serve as the clinic’s main provider.
Hospital leadership emphasized the importance of bringing essential services closer to home. “We are not a big hospital. We can’t do everything. But what we can do, we should bring locally,” said CEO John Sylvia during the ceremony. Additional remarks were provided by GMH Board President Tammy Kesner, who spoke about the expansion of the hospital and strong community support, and cardiology provider Mary Wimer who shared a brief overview of her extensive experience as a Nurse Practitioner and her goal of broadening cardiology services as the clinic becomes established.
The opening reflects the hospital’s ongoing commitment to improving access to quality healthcare within the community. As part of this investment, the hospital has also purchased a new cardiac echocardiography (echo) machine and Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) equipment to enhance diagnostic capabilities. Plans are already in place to expand cardiology offerings in the future, including additional testing capabilities, advanced equipment, and cardiac rehabilitation services.
The new clinic represents a promising step toward strengthening heart care services and improving health outcomes for residents throughout the region.
