Many people use the phrase “Luck of the Irish” to describe unexpected blessings, fortunate opportunities, or those moments when things simply seem to fall into place—often the result of perseverance and the support of a caring community.
Whether it is March and its association with luck or not, the Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation (EWVCF) knows the real magic happens through people. Every donor gift, every board meeting attended, and every hour of service provided by our community partners helps turn hope into action. Through these acts of generosity and commitment, our community continues to thrive—not by luck alone, but through leadership and shared purpose.
At a recent EWVCF board meeting, that spirit was clearly on display. Seated around the table were individuals who care deeply about our community and about the nonprofit organizations doing the hard work of meeting its needs. Their dedication was evident in every conversation, every thoughtful question, and every vote to ratify more than $425,000 in grants supporting over 130 community partners.
This careful stewardship ensures that the resources entrusted to the Foundation continue to create meaningful impact across our region.
In philanthropy and community service, the “Luck of the Irish” can serve as a meaningful metaphor. What may appear to be luck is often the result of people showing up, caring deeply, and working together for the good of others. One recent example is the Runkles/Pill Scholarship Fund, established by Rick and Donna Pill, and approved by the EWVCF Board. Their generosity will create new opportunities for students for years to come.
Whether you believe in the “Luck of the Irish” or not, this month we are feeling especially fortunate—and it is because of you. Donor generosity fuels meaningful grants. Board leadership guides lasting change. Nonprofit partners meet urgent needs that strengthen our communities and make them brighter every day.
Our communities benefit from decisions rooted in care, responsibility, and vision. We are grateful for those who serve—not for recognition, but for impact.
Because of you, we do indeed feel lucky—not only in March, but all year long.
