EDITORIAL: More Productive Than Protests Would Be Using the Millions to Help Them Get Legal

By Stephen Smoot

Ask yourself this. What if the millions (or more) spent on ginning up nationwide protests and shutting down cities had been spent on doing something productive to help illegal aliens comply with the law?

What if that money all went to helping them to navigate the pro-cess of actually trying to live legitimately and legally in the United States?

The process is not easy, but also not overly complex and the appli-cant mostly needs time and money to work towards legal residence. In most cases, one goes back to his or her country of origin and works through the United States Consulate. It also helps to contact the United States Senator or Representative office of last American residence to be taken on as a case so that the workers in those offices can help as well, if possible.

When I worked with Congressman Alex Mooney’s office, our staff helped an illegal alien who was deported over a criminal charge that had been dropped, but the Commonwealth of Virginia had lost proof of that. The person in question returned to his country of origin with his family and lived in a hotel near the consulate. Several months later, the charge had been confirmed as null and void and the family had returned to the United States. Now he can live, work, and enjoy his life in America without a continual violation of immigration law hanging like a Sword of Damocles over his head because he followed the process and took care of his business.

The legal process helps to weed out criminals, terrorists, and other undesirables that bring costly crime and anti-social behavior wher-ever they land.

For most undergoing this process to come into compliance, they need a long term place to stay in their home country as they cycle through the requirements one must meet to legally enter the United States and stay here. That is where the money wasted on marching in the streets could actually help real people.

The protests against ICE did not materialize organically. These folks did not stop at the dollar store, buy posterboard and markers, and draw up signs. “Activists” were thoroughly trained with incred-ibly bad, perhaps intentionally bad, advice on how to provoke law enforcement. Neat and printed signs were available almost on the next day. Millions of dollars stood poised to take advantage of the all too predictable conflicts between law enforcement and middle aged bourgeois white leftists in the streets.

Now we enter the latest chapters of “The Left Uses Immigrants As Pawns.”

Throughout this century, every president save Donald Trump has embraced the suicidal strategy of mass immigration. Joe Biden, the worst of the bunch, basically opened the taps and let the firehose roar. During his administration especially, international organiza-tions whipped up massive groups of people to trek through Mexico, sneak across the border, and violate the laws of the United States of America flagrantly and without accountability.

These people were herded into America en masse for a reason and that was not to better their lives or to put them in a safe and produc-tive situation. That was chapter one.

Amongst the criminals, terrorists, the mentally ill, and the chroni-cally evil are actually those here and there who legitimately are good people whose only criminal act in their lives is living illegally in the United States and honestly want a better life. That is a relatively mi-nor crime whose tolerance, unfortunately, has opened the door wide for much, much worse. Enforcement must now be stringent to clean up the sins of presidents’ past.

In a rational world, elected officials can figure out how to let the good guys in and keep the bad guys out. Because, let’s be honest, because the US political divide increasingly looks like an imposing wall, no thoughtful action now can take place. But letting everyone in because, at the very least, a solid minority of them are good guys is disastrous policy. Just ask Emperor Valens how that plays out.

Now chapter two. These “protests” once again make illegal aliens the pawns of the Left because all of the vandalism, violence, and dis-ruption will not help one single soul.  What it has done is manipulate the rage of bourgeois white Leftist fellow travellers and convinced them that their best role in this is cannon fodder, hoping beyond hope for an incident that will make things fall apart and hope beyond hope that the center cannot hold.

The goal of the leaders of these movements lies ultimately in shepherding the slouching rough beast of Communism into birth in America. They have no concern for the illegal aliens who have been used to their disadvantage the entire time and who are reaping the whirlwind sown by the Left. They honestly care just as little for their Menshevikesque fellow travelers confronting police at their personal risk. Disruption, however, is a feature, not a flaw.

Let’s sit back and think how they could have operated in such a way as to help the actual illegal aliens instead of using and abusing them, then tossing them aside when the next cause du jour erupts.

Take the millions, probably closer to billions dumped into these Leftist causes over the years, used to fund nihilism and apply it to-ward helping illegal aliens get legal. Use the money to educate them in what they need to do, support them in how they need to do it, and help them to a point where they can proudly proclaim that they earned United States citizenship.

Then come up with laws and policies that will address the con-cerns of those who understand the necessity of border security while also providing opportunity for immigrants that will enrich America. We need no more grifters and gangsters, no more so-called “Pales-tinian” haters of our Jewish communities who have turned elite and some other college campuses into hate-fests.

We do need people from abroad who work to support their fami-lies, who establish businesses, who are inspired by building America, not battering or burglarizing it.

Antagonizing and disrupting law enforcement makes it worse. At-tacking government buildings makes it worse. Disrupting the daily life of cities makes it worse.

Thinking about how to help the right kind of immigrants that help our communities and nation while getting rid of the wrong kinds that hurt, usually, other immigrants and also this nation is a hard task. Harder than raging against Donald Trump and harassing the police. Additionally, too many on the Left benefited from the massive na-tionwide machine politician style grift that also used illegal aliens in a thoroughly shoddy way.

On a deeper level, the recent events have shown that between the two sides in America lies not a divide, but a wall. America is much, much more divided now than in 1861. In 1861, the United States was a Christian nation that also respected Judaism. Americans mostly worked in agriculture or in support of it and mostly lived in rural areas. Americans all saw their own history as special and important while sharing the same War of Independence and early Republic he-roes.

They mainly differed first on the Constitutional question of state power, then the social, economic, and moral issue of slavery within the main structural conflict. They, however, remained more similar to each other than either were to any other world culture.

None of the ties that made Southern and Northern Americans still very similar at the opening of the Civil War are as extant in today’s political environment.
