VFW and Boy Scouts of America Host Retirement of Colors Ceremony

On November 1 st VFW Capon Post 2102 joined with the Boy Scouts of America Troop 81, both located in Wardensville, for a Retirement of the Colors Ceremony. Scoutmaster Joe Yeater, Assistant Scoutmaster Logan Link, and Scouts Alex Yeater and Andrew Yeater performed the ceremony. Chartered Organization Representative Kevin Link concluded the ceremony with the playing of taps. VFW Post 2102 Commander Robert Jenks and Auxiliary Senior Vice President Charlotte Bowman were in attendance along with WV State Senior Vice Commander Kevin Link.

VFW Capon Post 2102 Commander Robert Jenks addressed the sixth through twelfth grades at East Hardy Schools sharing an opportunity for a democracy-loving high school student interested in a $35,000 college scholarship or a patriotic middle school student interested in winning $5,000, to submit their essays to the Voice of Democracy and Patriot Pen programs. At this time essays have been submitted for advancement through the selection process. This annual program is introduced into the schools each year. The VFW is dedicated to promoting patriotism and investing in our future generation.

VFW Capon Post 2102 Auxiliary is participating in the Wreaths Across America Program. Most people have seen the photos or watched the laying of the wreaths in Arlington National Cemetery, but few know that

West Virginia has a National Cemetery for our Veterans located in Grafton, WV. To honor our Veterans at this location, Capon Post 2102

VFW Auxiliary members have been working to obtain sponsorships. Recent community services include participating in the local Halloween tradition of providing candy to witches, princesses, goblins, monsters, and other assorted characters, including a super cute mermaid; donating to the youth-based organization, Big Blue; providing food boxes for Veterans; and supporting other Veteran services.
