Moorefield High School held a dedication ceremony for the courtyard behind the school adjacent to George Hott Field on Wednesday. – Our Hive Works Together.

“I am extremely grateful to our business partners in helping see this vision come to life,” MHS teacher Gretchen Cremann noted.

This endeavor to be enjoyed by students for years to come was spearheaded by the MHS Student Council with support from Pendleton Community Bank and WVU Medicine Grant Memorial Hospital as members of the MHS Partners in Education.

“We are proud to be a partner with Moorefield High School and have been for the past two decades. It is my honor to serve as the president of the Pendleton Community Bank business partnership. When this idea came forward, it was a great idea for us to get behind. For the years I have been part of the business partnership, one of the things I have wanted to stress as a business partnership is to find new ways and ideas to come up with things that will benefit every student in the school and not just a small group which we have helped in the past and glad to do. We helped get a new stage for graduation and helped with the security system and many things to help make this school a better and safer place. I really enjoy this business partnership with the school,” Pendleton Community Bank Business Partnership president Sheldon Arbaugh commented.

This courtyard features the Yellow Jacket mural on the wall painted by local artist Kelson Thorne, bench next to next to a small garden and picnic tables.

“It is very special to be a part of this and for the growth and opportunity these students can have here. This is nice area for the students to relax and study and express themselves. It’s a great opportunity for us to help. WVU Medicine AVP Chief Nursing Officer of Health Services at Grant Memorial Hospital Elaine Geroski said.

The keynote speakers for the courtyard dedication were MHS principal Amanda Campbell with welcoming remarks, MHS student council advisor and teacher Gretchen Cremann and MHS senior student council representative Elizabeth Williams.

“It is very special, because they can use this space throughout the years and it can impact many generations and not just students who are here right now. It is a legacy for these kids and the students that came before them, because they have been working on it for years. It is great to see it culminate,”MHS principal Amanda Campbell stated.

The Yellow Jackets have a beautiful courtyard to connect with fellow students and enjoy the serenity for many generations.

“On behalf of the student council, I am honored to welcome you to the courtyard dedication. Four years ago, this place was just an idea. A vision of a place where students could gather, study and connect. Since then, countless hours of planning, fundraising and teamwork has turned this vision into a reality. Every table, every chair and even the mural represents the hard work and spirit of our students. This courtyard isn’t just a space, it is a reminder of what we can accomplish when we work together in a shared goal. We thank everyone who has supported this project along the way. We hope this courtyard becomes a lasting symbol of our school’s pride, festivity and community,” MHS senior Elizabeth Williams concluded.

There was a special ribbon cutting after the speakers finished and the students cheered in response for the official opening of the courtyard – Our Hive Works Together.
