Sandra Kay “Sandi” Osgood, 80, of Rockport, WV, was born on March 1,1945 at Hur, WV to the late Reverends Charles and Ruby Wilkinson and graduated to Glory on August 20,2025.
She was a 1963 graduate of Parkersburg High School and received her B.A. degree from Asbury University in Wilmore, KY. She took as many art classes as possible at each of those schools.
She married the Rev. Ted Osgood on September 10,1966. Their ministry as a couple began in the Northwest Indiana Conference of the Methodist Church. After eight years in Indiana they served as missionaries at the Navajo Methodist Mission in Farmington, NM where she started a student choir and substituted as an art teacher and dorm mother. In 1976 she and her husband moved back to her beloved home state of West Virginia. She was always a true helpmate, doing chalk illustrations as her husband preached, singing, playing the organ or piano when needed, served as youth leader at First United Methodist Church in Welch, served as choir director at Duffey Memorial Church in Moorefield, and organized the Limestone Lamplighter’s at Limestone United Methodist Church, now Limestone Gospel Fellowship.
Through the years, following college graduation, Sandi has been active as an artist winning over 100 awards in art shows in both oils and graphics. She won an international award for a miniature painting. She has taught art classes (mostly oil painting and water color) in Mercer, McDowell, and Hardy Counties. One year two of her students won first and second place in the Hardy County fair. When someone bragged on her for such good teaching she answered with her quick wit, “I’m just glad I didn’t enter, I might have lost to my students.” Her personal relationship with Christ often led to students asking her questions about faith or asking for prayer, and in several instances led, eventually, to a student receiving Christ as their personal savior.
Until her recent illness prevented it, Sandi served as one of the pianists at Limestone Gospel Fellowship, where she was a member. When asked to sing in a service you could almost always be assured of hearing one of the hymns or gospel songs about the blood of Christ, often sung with tears of joy for the great love and mercy of Christ. Her favorite hymn was “Amazing Grace”.
Other than art and music, Sandi enjoyed hiking, eating out, doing crossword puzzles, Bible study, and just being with family and friends. Her quick wit and friendly joking often won her friends and defused some potential arguments. Even with the talents and awards her greatest joy was salvation by grace through faith and that both of her children and both of her grandsons have come to a saving relationship with Christ, and know the joy of sins covered by the blood of Christ on the cross.
In addition to her parents Sandra was preceded in death by her sister Bonnie (Knapp) Lyons. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of nearly 59 years, Rev. Ted Osgood, her son, Eric Osgood, her daughter, Dana (Kevin) Ashbaugh, grandsons Tim Ashbaugh and Donevin Ashbaugh, and her two pet cats, Annie and Tiny.
In lieu of flowers Sandi requested donations to The Gideons or House Calls Hospice who gave her such loving care in her final weeks.
A service to celebrate her home going and victory over cancer, death and the grave will be held at Saturday 4 PM at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Reverends Rick DeQuasie and Phil Dent officiating. Visitation will be Friday 6-8 PM.
