Hot, but not too hot. Breezy, but not windy. Cotton ball puff clouds, but nothing even remotely threatening to drop rain.
Mother Nature seemed to have joined legions of parents, armies of children, and everyone else who went to Moorefield Town Park last Saturday.
One young lady, about half the height of the merry-go-round, pushed the venerable playground attraction around as fast as she could. From across the way, vibrant songs from the Grease soundtrack regaled young and old alike.
Vendors and information booths formed a loose circle amongst the cooling shade trees at the edge of the park.
Brownie Junior Troop 14114 was well represented on the day. Members held flags in the parade. As Scout leader Tonya Brennan described, children of all ages could paint small stones at their table. They then took those rocks and placed them together to form a snake placed at the basketball court.
“They paint rocks to make him grow,” she explained.
Other children splashed in the cool water of the town swimming pool or enjoyed inflatable bouncy houses.
Community service agencies also came in force. EACHS Head Start invited families to register children of age to start in the fall while Eastern Action offered a number of pamphlets to inform about various area resources.
It served as an excellent opportunity for children and families to kick off Hardy County’s most anticipated week of family fun.
