Gassaway, WV – June 23, 2025 – Mountaineer Food Bank is proud to announce the receipt of a $40,000 grant from EQT Foundation, which will directly support the reach and impact of the Mobile Pantry Program.
According to the USDA, 38% of West Virginia qualifies as a “food desert” with little to no access to affordable and nutritious food. The Mobile Pantry Program is designed to get food to our neighbors as quickly and fresh as possible, providing a variety of fruits, vegetables, lean protein, dairy products, and baked good.
Items are transported to selected locations and served in a drive-thru style distribution. A mobile pantry can feed between 100 and 600 families per occurrence. “Our Mobile Pantry Program breaks down barriers to food access by bringing nutritious groceries directly to those who need it most,” said Chad Morrison, CEO of Mountaineer Food Bank.
“Thanks to this generous support from EQT Foundation, we will be able to ensure continued service to these communities.”
Last year, the Mobile Pantry Program distributed over 2.6 million pounds of food to more than 50,000 households across 41 counties. This funding will help increase access for families who live in areas with limited access to grocery stores.
