Dear Editor,

I am writing to encourage all Hardy County citizens to get out and vote. I realize this is only a midterm election BUT this one is VERY important. This election could determine the status of our county, state and country for years to come.

When thinking about the candidates for House of Delegates, remember the work Steven Schetrom has done as a County Commissioner. Our County Commissioners are charged with the task of making life as good as possible for the citizens of Hardy County while balancing a budget. Steven Schetrom took that task seriously in his tenure as Hardy County Commissioner. There were several problems voiced by our families, friends, and neighbors that Steven impacted.

Public safety and emergency services have been among the most challenging issues Steven has addressed during his tenure as Hardy County Commissioner. Improving emergency preparedness, supporting our fire departments, and ensuring reliable and financially sustainable EMS services have required careful evaluation, collaboration, and difficult decisions. Steven worked with the responsible agencies and the other Commissioners to present recommendations to enhance those critical services.

The results of these efforts include improved financial oversight, more efficient operations, and sustainable funding options. He has also worked with fellow Commissioners and emergency-service leaders as the county has considered ways to maintain these essential services while minimizing the financial burden on taxpayers.

Another huge concern of residents in Hardy County has been local land use. Issues that involved zoning, property assessments, personal property rights, and projects of large sizes that could change our way of life in Hardy County. Steven researched both pros and cons of proposed ventures. He thought about economic development versus our current financial condition and fostered strategies to balance those factors.

As Commissioner, Steven had the opportunity to work with state officials and cultivate relationships that will help him in the role of Delegate. Steven has elaborated on his vision for Hardy County and expounded on ways he plans to work in the House of Delegates for the betterment of our citizens. I urge you to elect Steven Schetrom as our House of Delegates Representative.

Thank you,

Sherri Hof
