Frankfort Soccer crashed the Yellow Jackets senior night party, but there were good highlights for Moorefield.

Frankfort Girls Soccer earned a 7-1 victory and Falcons Boys won 6-nil over the Yellow Jackets.

Moorefield Girls Soccer senior Valeria Rivera-Marrero scored the lone goal on a nice kick from the side of the box just eluding the Falcons goalkeeper.

“It is a very unique experience. It is a very honoring moment being on the team and everyone cheers you up. It is the best thing you can feel. I scored on senior night. It was amazing,” Moorefield Girls senior Valeria Rivera-Marrero stated.

Moorefield Girls Soccer senior goalkeeper Grace Simmons made numerous saves to surpass the 200 save milestone for the season.

“It has been a great past two years. I am grateful for all the girls on the team for the past two seasons. I am thankful for the girls I played with here for my senior season,” Moorefield Girls Soccer senior Grace Simmons remarked.

Simmons plans to attend Potomac State College to play softball and study Pre-Veterinary Medicine.

“I love these girls. they have been with our program in its first two seasons. Grace is the heart and soul of our team in the goal. Valeria has put in a lot of hard work since she started and it is great to see where she has reached today in a beautiful full circle moment scoring the goal against Frankfort. Frankfort was our first opponent last season. Last year she was working on dribbling and passing and has worked hard to become a starter and I love every minute of her being here. These girls have helped our program get off to a good start and we have a bright future ahead,” Moorefield Girls coach Jessica Markwood commented.

Moorefield Boys Soccer kept the Falcons scoreless for 22 minutes as the senior defense stepped up and the offensive attacks kept the Falcons in check.

Acosta came very close to scoring, but hit the top crossbar on a close one-on-one opportunity in the first half.

Moorefield Boys seniors honored prior to the match were: Javi Acosta, Chernet Ansani, Chris Baldwin, Brendan Fawley, Jordan Fields and Theywist Velasco.

“It is really special to be in one of the first programs of MHS Soccer. We have had many struggles, but we always manage to come back stronger. My advice for the underclassmen is the best way to improve is to learn to enjoy playing soccer,” Moorefield Boys Soccer Chernet Ansani stated.

Acosta plans to study mechanical engineering.

Ansani plans to study business marketing.

Fawley plans to attend barber school and earn a business degree at Fairmont State University.

“It means everything to be on the soccer program. I had joined just because I was a senior and wanted to do a different sport, but it has become more than just something new. I’ve made new friends and learned more about their shirt and it’s been an honor to be apart of this program. My advice to underclassmen is to not be hard on yourself and just have fun. Put in work and always give 100 percent effort,” Moorefield Boys soccer senior Brendan Fawley noted.

Fields plans to enlist in the United States Army.

Velasco plans to attend WVU and study computer science and engineering.

Baldwin plans to study cyber security with sights on joining the FBI.

“My favorite memory was spending an entire weekend with Jason and Jessica Markwood building Moorefield’s first official home soccer field. Looking back at the years we’ve spent together, I realized how much this team has meant to me. We all see soccer differently, but we use those differences to make each other stronger. It takes time, patience, and a lot of practice to build a team like this. we are more than just teammates — we are a family. No matter where soccer or life takes us, we’ll always have the family we built here throughout our years together,” Moorefield Boys Soccer senior Chris Baldwin said.
