Moorefield Boys Soccer defeated the Vikings 10-1 in the first official home match in program history at Inskeep Field.
Moorefield senior Javier Acosta and sophomore Danny Guifarro-Baca netted hat tricks during the victory.
The Yellow Jackets scoring barrage continued with a pair of goals by senior Chris Baldwin and junior Austin Arbaugh.
Petersburg Boys Soccer’s lone goal was recorded by Iann Doman, which came on a corner kick for a 6-1 score.
Guifarro-Baca added a goal for a 7-1 advantage entering halftime.
The Moorefield bench went wild after the first goal made by Baldwin, and there was a huge celebration.
Baldwin had been designated as a goalie this season, but proved his footwork could produce goals.
Guifarro-Baca stretched out his arms after his goals, showing his joy helping the team increase the lead.
The Yellow Jackets had relentless attacks against Vikings goalkeeper Aiden Coakley.
Moorefield Boys Soccer sophomore goalkeeper Teagan Eversole got tremendous help from the defense overall and keeping the goal clear.
“Winning the first home game in program history was special, especially because we beat one of our rivals. I’m really proud of the boys and excited to see how far we can take this program. I can’t wait to see even bigger crowds at our home games,” Moorefield Boys Soccer assistant coach Atikilt Tamiru remarked.
“It’s very exciting. I always wished we had a soccer program when I was at MHS. I’m happy these players get to have that opportunity and I’m glad to be part of it as a coach.”
Petersburg Girls Soccer ruined the first home match party with a 5-1 win over the Yellow Jackets.
Moorefield got off to an electric start as freshman Aeries Deetz nailed the first Yellow Jackets home goal in program history.
The Vikings changed course without letting in another goal, despite great attacks coming from Parvatee Snyder and Chloe Leroux.
Petersburg’s Kaylee Wolford netted a hat trick in the win. Jozlynn Appold added two goals.
Moorefield goalkeeper senior Grace Simmons remained focused and helped direct defensive traffic at times, despite the loss.
“I was really excited when we got off to the fast start, scoring first. I am very proud of Aeries scoring that first goal in program history. We struggled with communication and things just unraveled for us. We have a great group of girls and we will work hard moving forward,” Moorefield Girls Soccer coach Jessica Markwood noted.
