The Falcons Boys swooped down with their talons for a 9-0 win and the Falcons Girls team secured a 7-0 shutout roosting in the nest at Short Gap.
Frankfort Boys Soccer opened the evening with a 9-nil shutout over Moorefield paced by a hat trick from Liam Orndorf and a pair of goals by Mason Jones.
Frankfort Girls Soccer secured a 7-0 win over the Yellow Jackets led by Reagan Getz’s hat trick and two goals from Emma Gandolfi.
Moorefield Boys Soccer goalkeeper Chris Baldwin limited the scoring to 4-0 in the first half, but jammed his finger attempting to thwart a header by the Falcons and was replaced in the second half by Teagan Eversole.
Eversole was diving in the dirt on multiple occasions and made a couple big saves.
Moorefield’s Vance Simmons made an impressive save on his chest when sandwiched by two Falcons on the outside edge of the goal.
The Yellow Jackets
Despite a limited attack, the Yellow Jackets had several big chances thwarted by Falcons goalie Jesus Perdew.
Perdew intercepted a corner kick from Chernet Ansani and deflected another shot he had in front of the goal.
Moorefield’s Javi Acosta, coming off a hat trick performance in a win against Preston, was denied on a charge by Perdew and deflected two other attempts.
‘I knew Moorefield was going to be tough, watching them in the Keyser scrimmage and improved from last year. Our boys came out strong and stuck to our game plan. When we stick to our game plan, we can put goals in and we did. we were really trying to force the ball down the middle to Liam. We used him a lot in the second half. I thought the defense had one breakdown and lost sight of their striker. I was really proud of Jesus and how he was communicating and coming out of his shell,” Frankfort Boys Soccer coach Jason Vaughan noted.
Moorefield Girls Soccer goalie Grace Simmons had a handful of big saves, despite the outcome.
Moorefield Girls Soccer’s Parvatee Snyder, Chloe Leroux and Emily Parisi had several big opportunities charging towards the goal, but the Falcons stopped the attacks.
“We need better first touches and movements without the ball into space. We clustered up too much and had too many missed opportunities when both teams shortened the playing field with defensive movements. A good first touch is critical for possession to mount an attack, especially in a tight space. Overall, I was proud of the number of possession changes our defense caused, either through pressure or securing the offsides call. Their coach made a great adjustment on the front line in the second half to prevent additional turnovers and they were aggressive with aerial balls. We had more shots on goal this year than our previous year against them. We’re getting momentum. Our second year players have stronger legs and more accuracy than last year, which will help us throughout the season. We made a beautiful play from the back on the left side that led to a shot on goal, it was a glimmer of good things to come. Our girls are still learning, and Frankfort has had 25 years to build a program. They’ve improved, too, since our last meeting,” Moorefield Girls Soccer coach Jessica Markwood commented.
Frankfort Girls Coach Matt Bolinger has been part of a new soccer program at Frankfort as a player, so he understands what Moorefield is going through.
“I was here as a member of the first Frankfort team. We went through growing pains and I know how Moorefield feels. They are just in their second year dealing with those pains as a young program, but they have a talented group and I think their future is bright. We have a big youth soccer feeder program which has helped us grow. Reagan and Emma played extremely well for us in the front and I can’t say enough about our goalkeepers with how they stepped up,” Frankfort Girls Soccer coach Matt Bolinger said.
