Thomas “Tom” Vowls, 83, of Dutch Hollow, Wardensville, West Virginia, passed away on June 27, 2026 at the Winchester Medical Center.
Tom was born on January 29, 1943, in Philippi, WV the son of the late Arthur and Alma Wilmoth Vowls. He spent his life appreciating the simple gifts that meant the most: family, nature, and his animals that brought him so much joy. A true outdoorsman, Tom found peace in the beauty of Dutch Hollow. He was happiest riding his side-by-side through the mountains, on his tractor, or simply taking a walk with his faithful companion, Zoee by his side.
He had a remarkable love for animals and cared not only for his own pets but also the wildlife that visited him each day. The deer, wild turkeys, squirrels and countless birds became part of his daily routine, and he took great joy in watching over them. His beloved fur babies, Zoee and Soona Mae, held a very special place in his heart.
Tom was a proud lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge #29, A.F. & A.M. in Moorefield, WV. Tom also treasured the friendships he shared with the “Miller Boys”, whose companionship brought him many years of laughter, stories, and unforgettable memories.
Tom is survived by his wife, Kitty Richard Vowls; children, Samantha Wynkoop (Zene), Michele “Miki” Fishel (Jason), and William Richard (Holly); six cherished grandchildren; and four beloved great-grandchildren.
Tom was preceded in death by his precious daughter, Sonia Kay Vowls, whose memory he carried close to his heart every single day, a brother Ralph and a sister Jean.
Those who knew Tom will remember his gentle spirit, his deep love for the outdoors, and the kindness he showed to both people and animals alike. His legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply, the friends who were blessed to know him, and the peaceful hills of Dutch Hollow that will forever remind us of him.
The family will receive friends and family at the Loy-Giffin Funeral Home & Crematory in Wardensville, WV on Thursday, July 2, 2026 from 4-7 PM. Inurnment will take place privately in the Hahn-Michael Cemetery in Dutch Hollow at a later date.
