On Saturday, May 30, Hardy & Hampshire County residents joined top professional Fling Golfers from all over the country as two dozen pairs competed on Capon Springs resort’s prep golf course. Capon Bridge Middle School athletic director Trevor Largent and Hampshire County EDA director JT Hott were the top Hampshire County finishers. Playing with their designated pros, they tied for 5th place, just earning the last prize spots.
Just out of the money at one position back, was Moorefield High School student Alex Stewart, who was paired with the #1 US men’s player, Austin Ebersole. Alex’s friend Jayden Moran ended up tied for 12th place. These high school standouts were all-in on joining the FlingForAll youth development program, sporting custom-designed Moorefield school uniforms with their official nicknames, “Flingster” and “Woodchipper”.
A WV documentary filmmaker, Justin Harris, with MountainRiverMedia, captured the action as well as personal interviews in order to elevate awareness for youth participation in outdoor recreation, thus improving their physical, emotional, and social well-being.
The Pro-Am tourney kicked off the 2nd Annual World League FlingGolf (WLF) National Doubles championship- a 2-day event with top players vying for one of the largest cash purses on the tour, thanks to event sponsor Lost Barrel Brewery. The WV based club, Highlandeers, filled many of the top slots in both the men’s and co-ed divisions as well as earning top honors in “best dressed” and closest to the pin.
Tourney host Jonathan Bellingham, teamed with Michael Alexiou of Harrisburg, VA, took third place.
