Yellow Jackets swarm past Berkeley Springs in Class AA Region II Tournament elimination game

Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets easily dispatched Berkeley Springs Varsity Indians on Thursday at 226 Spring Ave, 9-1.

A single by Maddie Close put Berkeley Springs Varsity Indians on the board in the top of the third.

Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets took the lead in the bottom of the third inning after Grace Simmons hit a sacrifice fly, Berkeley Springs Varsity Indians committed an error, and Emmy Crites grounded out, each scoring one run.

Annie Barr earned the win for Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets. The hurler gave up one hit and zero runs over three and one-third innings, striking out two and walking three. Scotlyn Forney 2027 took the loss for Berkeley Springs Varsity Indians. The pitcher went five innings, surrendering nine runs (five earned) on 10 hits, striking out one and walking three. Anniston Kite began the game for Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets. The starting pitcher gave up four hits and one run over two and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking four.

Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets amassed 10 hits in the game. Caroline Auville and Brenna See each collected two hits for Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets. Grace Simmons and Brenna See were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets. Annie Barr stole three bases. Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets stole seven bases in the game. Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets turned two double plays in the game. Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Grace Simmons had the most chances in the field with six.

Maddie Close led Berkeley Springs Varsity Indians with one run batted in. The infielder went 1-for-2 on the day. Bailee Diehl, Berkeley Springs Varsity Indians’s number seven hitter, led the team with two hits in three at-bats. K Risinger led Berkeley Springs Varsity Indians with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating seven walks for the game.
